The Real Twins of NYC: Kelis Releases FLESH TONE at Greenhouse!!!

Singer/songwriter Kelis, born Kelis Rogers, is most well known for her catchy singles, Milkshake and Bossy, which took the western world by storm. What many people do not know is the progression of her rise to fame. Kelis was raised in the Harlem area of New York City where she went to school and lived with her parents. When she turned 16 she went off to live on her own and continued her education at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts where she, along with two other ladies, formed he R&B girl group called BLU, which stood for Black Ladies United. After her high school graduation she collaborated with The Neptunes, Pharrell Williams, and Chad Hugo, who helped her get that first record deal that led to where she is today.

On July 8, Kelis celebrated the release of her fifth studio album, titled Flesh Tone, at Greenhouse in New York City. When she began the album, she was still an unsigned artist so much of the recording took place in her garage aka Casa de Kelis. She then began working with will.i.am who helped her get a record deal with Interscope. This album has a very different sound than her previous albums. While the others were more R&B, Flesh Tone is very electropop in tribute to motherhood and the birth of her son Knight. The album's first single "Acapella" already topped the charts following its release in February and the follow up single "4th of July" will most likely do the same!
