From innovative silhouettes to stunning color palettes…We decided to bring you our favorite designers who define haute couture fashion and keep inspiring us collection after collection. From “old school” European to young and upcoming American bred, these designers are our FABULOUS FASHION GURUS.

1) JOHN GALLIANO



BIRTHDAY: November 28, 1960

STAR SIGN: Sagittarius

HOMETOWN: Gibraltar

CURRENT STATUS: Chief Designer of Christian Dior

INSPIRATION: The Theater and Femininity

DESIGN AESTHETIC: Intricate detailing, phenomenal tailoring, classic romantic themes, and military styles

CELEBRITY CLIENTAL: Kate Moss, Nicole Kidman, and personal muse Charlize Thereon

INTERESTING FACTS:
Galliano’s a work out nut, he wakes up 6 am everyday for a vigorous work out routine.
In 2000, his “Hobo-Chic” collection was mimicked in the movie Zoolander by Will Ferrell character’s line “Derrlyck”




2) GIANNI VERSACE



BIRTHDAY: DECEMBER 2, 1946

STAR SIGN: Sagittarius

HOMETOWN: Reggio Calabria, Italy

CURRENT STATUS: Deceased: sister Donatella has taken charge of the Versace label

INSPIRATION: Andy Warhol, Pop Art, Ancient Rome and Greece

The designer is known for creating the “supermodel” which can be credited by his extravagant salaries to models and close friends Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, and Noami Campbell




3) ZAC POSEN



BIRTHDAY: OCTOBER 24, 1980

STAR SIGN: Scorpio

HOMETOWN: Soho, New York

CURRENT STATUS: Working on his own label while collaborating with Target on a line and Sean Combs for his clothing line.

INSPIRATION: New York City Youth

DESIGN AESTHETIC: Forties styled tailoring, Mermaid gowns, and cocktail pieces

CELEBRITY CLIENTAL: Demi Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Natalie Portman

INTERESTING FACTS:
Before Posen’s career launched, he created a gown out of thin strips of leather and dress hooks which was put on display in Central St. Martin exhibition of Victorian undergarments.




4) VALENTINO GARAVANI



BIRTHDAY: MAY 11, 1932

STAR SIGN: Taurus

HOMETOWN: Voghera, Italy

CURRENT STATUS: Retired after his last show in Paris in 2008.

INSPIRATION: Opulence, Extravagance, and Luxury

DESIGN AESTHETIC: Red gowns, white pleats, and animal prints

CELEBRITY CLIENTAL: Jennifer Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, and Julie Roberts

INTERESTING FACT:
Only designer to make a wedding dress for Jackie O. and perfect his own color, “Valentino Red”





5) MATTHEW WILLIAMSON

STAR SIGN: Scorpio

HOMETOWN: Manchester, England

CURRENT STATUS: Runway shows and creating his first ever men’s line with H&M

INSPIRATION: Tropical locales and Jet-setters

DESIGN AESTHETIC: Butterfly hems, bright colors, swing dresses, and kaleidoscope prints.

CELEBRITY CLIENTAL: Kate Moss and Sienna Miller

INTERESTING FACT:
For his first runway show Kate Moss, Jade Jagger, and Helena Christiansen all were models...not bad for a first timer.

  1. I love this post. Its great to see where you ladies get your inspiration from.

    Versace's death was so sad and tragic. I love Valentino. It feel like he was reincarnated from a time long ago. His documentary The Last Emperor looks great.

    I was watching an documentary on Ozwald Boateng and when he interviewed Georgio Armani it was a great interview.

    Armani has the same passion and drive as someone JUST starting out in the industry.

    He has a youthful passion and I think thats what it takes to be successful.
