Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler Make Debut on Idol

Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler 

The new season of American Idol debuted last night with Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler as the show's newest judges as they hit the first auditions in New Jersey. With Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell both gone, can these two superstars replace the very nice Paula and the infamous witty Britt? It's too early in the season to predict how they will do, but last's night episode gave us a little taste.

Singer, dancer, actress, mother, and not to mention wife of Marc Anthony, the flawless and always fabulous J. Lo tried to be kind and soften the blow when she turned down contestants. However, there were a few questionable contestants that J. Lo gave the "okay" to. We think she was trying to avoid replacing bad cop, Simon Cowell and create a more like-able title for herself.  There were of course some awkward moments where contestants tried to beg and plead and make up foolish excuses, but oh no,  Lopez was not buying it. Achille Lovle sang a rendition of Madonna's "Dress You Up" and failed to impress Lopez. The contestant's excuse, her accent.  Lopez's response: " It's not about the accent, it's more really just about the singing". Diss! Aside from that, we say J. Lo definitely played nice.

Rock star, and lead singer of Aerosmith,  Steven Tyler came dressed in a colorfully clashing variety of patterns and jewelry, like always. Since J. Lo didn't fill the shoes of Cowell, could Tyler do it? Not exactly. Tyler also played nice and didn't deliver dream shattering insults to the contestants. Tyler did bring to the table energy, quirkiness and some flirty language, telling one 16 year-old in a skirt, "just the right amount showing". We're not sure if that's really okay to say to 16 year old, but he did give her the "okay" for the next round. Tyler didn't fail to lash out strange comments, too. Asking a contestant with colorful vocals if they ate " alot of paint chips as a child". Funny, but not mean enough. 

Overall the new judges didn't seem to bring any great for t.v drama or insults to the show.  I mean, we all know we watched to see Simon and Paula fight and to see whose dream Cowell would shatter next. We don't expect any of that this season from these two judges, so we are going to leave it to our dogg, Randy Jackson, to hold it down and let us know who really has what it takes to win Idol. Stay tuned for the next episode on Thursday in New Orleans.

The Former Astrological Calendar

There’s talk about a new addition to the astrological calendar, according to a group of astronomers at the Minnesota Planetarium Society.Over the past 2000 years there has been a shift in the stars leading them to believe that the signs have shifted, too. The additional sign is called Ophiuchus and covers the dates Nov. 29th- Dec.17th  "Ophiuchus" means "serpent-bearer" in Greek. There are several different characters from Greek mythology that Ophiuchus is thought to represent, including Asclepius the healer, Trojan priest Laocoon, who was killed by sea serpents, and Phorbas, who saved the people of Rhodes from an infestation of serpents. 

If you are a Sagittarius or Capricorn, you are probably really upset about this, it affects your signs the most, but practically the dates for all the signs automatically shift as well. We don't think anyone is happy about this. Here are the new dates  of the latest astrological calendar:

Capricorn: Jan. 29th- Feb. 16th 

The sign of Capricorn is a feminine sign and seeks to be a useful and effective woman or man. Capricorn values self-sufficiency society, traditions and responsibility. They are money-motivated and seek status, position and authority. The Pisces are pioneers both in thought and action, very open to new ideas and a lover of freedom. Aries: Apr. 18- May. 13th 

Aries have unusually strong will power and great obstinacy of purpose. Taurus is the sign of practicality and possessions. People born under the sign of Taurus tend to be very patient, practical and dedicated people. Such people are usually very cautious when dealing with people, life and money. They have a curious power of dominating others, even when not conscious of trying to do so. People who were born in that time are extremely faithful, with a strong need for security and a settled routine. Although they are very earthy, they can also be highly romantic and sensitive when it comes to love. 

Gemini: Jun 20th- Jul 21st

The people who were born in this period are widely known for their dual personalities and ability to change mood from moment to moment. Although they hate to be tied down, they make lively, entertaining and romantic partners, even if they can be rather fickle if bored or unhappy. Of all people they are the most difficult to understand; in temperament they are hot and cold almost at the same moment. They love with one side of their nature and they are often critical or dislike with the other people. Their sharp wit and excellent powers of observation make them a good raconteur, although they have a tendency to exaggerate which can cause trouble with their relationships. 

Cancer: Jul. 20th- Aug. 10th

They are generally over-anxious in financial matters, and make great efforts to gather in money; as a rule, they have unusual ups and downs in their early life and so they are compelled to work to keep ahead, but once they get on their feet they keep there. If channeled in the right direction, their enormous sensitivity can become a great source of strength. Once they overcome their touchiness and master their turbulent emotions, their intellect and imagination enable them to become a success in almost anything they undertake. 

Leo: Aug. 10th- Sept.16th

The Fire sign in these people is enthusiastic, energetic, and optimistic. Representatives of signs are happy, lucky people. Fixed people are stable. They don't like much change. Status quo suits them fine. They will stick to things and get them done.

They define pure modesty; they can't bear to be taken care of, they prefer to take care of others. People who were born in this period are as a rule generally successful in life. They have keen, good intellects, are very discriminating about those with whom they associate, and in all business matters they have good judgment, and are not easily imposed upon or deceived. 

Libra: Oct. 30th -Nov. 23rd

These people are rarely lazy. They work hard, and also demand that their partners work just as hard. They have a strong sense of justice and fair play. It is pretty unusual for them to express anger, but when they do it is usually a storm. They are extremely positive and decisive in all their thoughts and actions. They have great foresight and intuition, and are generally seen at their best when acting on first impressions. The fear is usually well controlled so the typical representatives of this sign usually looks calm, collected, and in charge of the situation. Good natured and loving, they enjoy talking to people, yet can also be very attentive listeners. 

Scorpio: Nov. 23rd - Nov. 29th

People born in this section of the year seem to be filled with inherent contradiction. The best and the worst seem to make this period their chosen battlefield. Up to nearly twenty years of age they are usually extremely pore-minded, virtuous, and religious, but once their nature is roused they are often found to swing in the opposite direction. At the same time the greatest saints have been found in this period. People who were born in this section of the year have great magnetic power, and as speakers appeal to the emotions and sentiments of their public more than to logic, but they sway their audiences as they choose. They are the searchers of the zodiac and have an insatiable desire for knowledge on every level. From spiritual and intellectual revelations, these people want the edge on everybody else. 

Ophiuchus: Nov. 29th- Dec. 17th

This new sign represents the healing of man. People who now fall into this new category are often envied and seek peace and wisdom. They seem to have good luck and can be easily misunderstood at times. In the work place they are at the top of the leader board and are hold high positions in life. They are interpreter of dreams and premonitions. The number 12 is of great significance to them. These people are very close to their families but tend to leave the house at a young age. They are said to favor bright clothing and more specifically wear plaid a lot.

Sagittarius: Dec. 17th- Jan. 20th

This is the sign of the philosopher and the explorer. They have an appetite for learning and travel. Such people prefer to be footloose and fancy free, however should they become involved in a relationship they make it as enjoyable and as much fun as possible. Normally they are very gregarious, but they will be glad to find the time for that special relationship. They concentrate all their attention on whatever they are doing at the moment, and seem to see no other way but theirs until their effort is made. They are often the great workers; such people never seem to tire until they drop with fatigue. They would rather learn on their own, through travel and experience, than endure structured classroom environments and routine work assignments. 

These people are usually successful in business, but never feel themselves confined to any one line. They follow the rule if they have been successful in some one thing there is no reason whatever that they must follow it through life. 

You're probably wondering if this mean now that your personality changes and now your whole life goals are shattered. This new calender changes everything, right? No, not at all! If you are really going to believe in this "new" sign, it only applies starting 2012. You are the sign you have believed you are since the day you were born.  But here is a thought: You’ve grown up your whole life believing that you were born into a certain sign.
